A design festival for Birmingham

Hello everyone. It’s very early days, but I wanted to share with you something exciting we’ve been working on behind the scenes.

When I took over the running of Badego about two and a half years ago I had in my mind that the end goal was to put on some form of Design festival. I’ve always found it really bizarre Birmingham doesn’t have one despite having so many festivals celebrating other parts of the creative community. Given the size of the city and the growth of the design industry as a whole I feel we’re crying out for a celebration in the heart of the country.

Having seen the popularity of amazing events such as Glug continue to grow and public interest in arts go to a new level we felt it was time to start having the conversation about how and when a design festival for Birmingham could happen. We’ve brought together a really great group of people, some of whom are designers, some who are already putting on events like this in Birmingham and some who are doing both. We’ve had a couple of meetings so far and have a rough plan of what we want this festival to be and soon we’re going to fully put our heads down and getting into the thick of planning. As the project expands so will the team and we’ll be contacting more people to be a part of the organisation as the months progress.

We’ll announce more details when we have them, for now you can head over to http://birminghamdesignfestival.org.uk and sign up to a mailing list and you can follow the twitter account @designfestbrum. If you’d be interested in getting involved send an email to hello@badego.org.uk and tell us more about yourself.
