Hello everyone. After a brief break our monthly round up is back. Here’s a list of things happening this month, some from us, some from other people. We’ll update this throughout the month as new things come on the radar, if you want to let us know about something you’re planning send us an email.
Verve Poetry Festival
16th – 19th February 2017
The first Birmingham based poetry festival is almost upon us. We’re really delighted to say that we’re involved and are sponsoring one of the events.
Verve is a four day festival of world class poetry and spoken word, with readings, performances, workshops, children’s events and more in the heart of Birmingham. Tickets are on sale now, with festival passes and workshops limited.
Thursday Informal @ Cherry Reds
Thursday 9th February – 6.30pm
Our regular meet up returned last month and was very well attended (of course, January). This month’s one will take place upstairs at Cherry Reds, come and join us for some light hearted conversation and drinks with your fellow contemporaries.
Verity Milligan Exhibition
On until July at Museum of the Jewellery Quarter
You may remember in November Verity put on an excellent talk about her work as part of our Creative Cafe events. Well now you can go and check out her incredible photos in her first solo exhibition in Birmingham.
Spaghetti Jams – Global Service Jam
17th – 19th February @ 383 Project
Spaghetti Jams are back and joining up with the Global Jam community to represent Birmingham in the global design challenge.
This time they’re focussing on the theme of Services. This is your chance to get together and create amazing ideas for services. Jammers have 48 hours to share ideas, solve problems, build solutions and present their service ideas.
Link up with other Global Service Jams around the world to say hello, hola or Nǐ hǎo and share experiences so far. Even throw down a dance/drawing challenge!
The Suffocating Truth Tour
3rd & 4th February – Old Library, Custard Factory
Thought I’d drop this in as I’ve heard it’s very good.
To what length would you go to keep a secret?
What toll does it take? Does it eat you from the inside?
Sky 1’s 2013 ‘Got To Dance’ Champion, Lukas McFarlane, is back with his company’s second full length show; The Suffocating Truth. Audiences across the UK will be immersed into a world like no other, witnessing one man’s journey into the exploration of sexuality, relationships and feelings of betrayal, pain and love…
During this intimate performance in the round, the audience will be teleported into the mind of Lukas McFarlane, where they will be a part of the dancers struggle to find acceptance, as well as the discovery that every lesson learnt brings them closer to true happiness.
The Arches – Reflected Realities now taking submissions
An exhibition of an intriguing topic, looking beyond appearances and exploring the differences between what people see and what they think they see.
Submitted artwork can be 3D or 2D from sculpture, painting or maybe illustration or installation or more; whatever it can be, let it inspire to participate in our exhibition.
Welcome to the team
Lastly a warm welcome to Charlie and Rachel who’ve joined the hosting team this month. Both will be helping us plan and put on new events moving forward, we’re looking forward to continuing to expand what we do.
